I take it back that Sausage Apple Pie is the worst recipe ever. Sorry Dad, but I'm still going to malign your fav recipe. It is gross, but I found a recipe that has to be worse, and I haven't ever tasted it. Actually I don't think I could ever bring myself to waste perfectly good ingredients on this recipe.
Sweet-Sour Chicken Mold
2 packages sour cream sauce mix
2 3-oz packages lemon flavored gelatin
2 c boiling water
1/2 c cold water
2 T lemon juice
1t dried dillweed
1 med green pepper seeded and quartered
1 med cucumber peeled, quartered and seeded
1 small carrot sliced
2 5-oz cans boned chiken, drained and cut up
Assorted fresh vegetables
Prepare sauce mix according to directions. Dissolve gelatin in boiling water, add sauce, cold water, lemon juice and dillweed. Beat til blended. Chill until partially set. Place green pepper, cucumber and carrot in blender container. Cover with cold water. Cover; Blend just till coarsely chopped. Drain well, stire vegetables and chicken into gelatin mixture. Turn into 7 1/2 cup ring mold. Chill till firm. Unmold and fill center with fresh veggies.
The caption above the photo reads "Sour cream sauce mix, lemon juice, and dillweed combine with lemon-flavored gelatin to produce the distinctive flavors in Sweet-Sour chicken Mold." Distinctive? Looks and sounds like molded puke to me! I love that they tell you to cover the blender before starting. This is one of the recipes in my Better Homes and Gardens- After Work Cook Book that I won't be trying. Still it was a great buy for $1 at the library.
How do they get salads to unmold anyway? I made a beautiful peach gelatin with leftover peaches, and I really wanted to unmold it so the peaches were on the bottom, gelatin on the top and I could fill the center with whipped topping. Didn't happen, as you can see. Stuck to the mold, so I scooped it out and we enjoyed it with our grilled ham and cheese sandwiches for lunch.

YOu stick the mold into a bowl of warm water for a few seconds, don't let it overflow into your salad, it will plop right out!
Interesting recipe...
That is truly the grossest-sounding recipe I've ever heard of. You win!
But that peach gelatin sounds great! even if it didn't unmold perfectly, it sounds yummy. :)
Oh my, sweet sour chicken mold?? Wow, that really doesn't sound good! Now the peach gelatin sounds yummy! I've heard the warm water trick works well too.

Ughhh... :D
My mom does some kind of chicken ring at baby showers and things like that and it always gets rave reviews! Jennifer
The warm water works well for my molds, too. Your mold looks like it might be tricky, though; it's so elaborate.
Once I was reading an old cookbook of my grandmother's and came across a molded recipe that included lemon gelatin and canned tomato soup. "Gross!" I thought. Then I looked at the top and realized that the recipe had been submitted by none other than my grandmother.
